Tonga
Tim will be working for twelve months for the Tonga Australian Football Association (TAFA) as a TAFA Development Officer. This assignment is partnered with the Australian Football League (AFL).He will be based in Nuku’alofa and will have a main focus on developing Australian Rules Football amongst communities. Tim will be involved in a variety of areas and programs within the TAFA including coaching workshops for both high school and primary school students, conducting umpire training, training other volunteers to assist in program development and help further establish school based programs.
While on assignment Tim hopes to contribute to the development of Aussie Rules within the island communities and develop a network with other volunteers to successfully deliver programs and skills to committees associated with the TAFA. He is looking forward to experiencing Tongan culture and social life, while travelling around the other islands while he is there.
Tim has a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Resource Management from Central Queensland University in Rockhampton Queensland and has coached many football teams and facilitated numerous football programs over the years. He applied for this assignment for culture, travel and life skills experiences while spreading awareness of Aussie Rules to South Pacific Nations.
With his love for both the water and AFL, Tim is a keen fisherman, snorkeler, camper, guitarist and football fanatic. He looks forward to using his many skills in Tonga while enjoying a little island life on the side.
