Pre-Departure Training

Pre-Departure Training (PDT) is a 5 day workshop held three times a year in Canberra in line with the three AYAD Intakes. All potential AYADs must attend PDT. The costs of attending PDT (airfares - within Australia only, accommodation and meals) are covered by the AYAD Program.

Pre-Departure Training includes briefings on insurance, medical information, security and emergency, media and community engagement and cross cultural training.

PDT aims to prepare you for your AYAD assignment through the provision of information on how the AYAD Program works, AusAID's strategic focus and work in the region and tools for capacity building, sustainable development and cross cultural communication.

PDT uses country specific examples and case studies and includes some country specific sessions (with Returned AYADs from each country and with AusAID Desk officers) however you also receive country specific training at your In Country Orientation when you arrive at your assignment destination.
